I noticed that with .73 (haven't moved to .74 yet) the CD rip speed indicator isn't making sense.  I have a 52x max speed CDRW drive, but it's only set to reach 40x speed.  I just had it reach 55x on the FIRST track of a CD -- even with the high speed enabled, there's no way it could reach the highest speed on the first track of a CD.  As the rip progressed, the subsequent tracks reported lower and lower speed settings.  The last track of this CD is 23 minutes long, but the speed only reached about 4.6x.  The time it took to rip the song, however, was very quick.  In other words, the "actual" speed that it's ripping is not matching what the number indicates.

On a similar subject, I preferred being able to check the actual "rip" speed of the last song after it's finished.  At the moment, all I can check is the last "encode"speed, which I'm not even sure how to interpret.

UPDATE -- I just ripped another CD and the first song hit the mid 90's.  This either isn't rip speed, or something is wrong.

I ripped a few cd's last night with .74 and all was well...

I ripped some more with .75, and I don't understand what the "rip speed" is telling me since it's obviously not the normal speed associated with reading CDs.  The first track of the CD I just ripped went up to around 55x (which is above the drive's capability, and certainly above ANY drives capability on the inside tracks) and the last track topped out at 3.2x, which is ridiculously slow (yet it seemed to rip very fast.)

What is the "speed" indicator in the rip window actually measuring when MC is NOT set to rip and encode simultaneously?  It is definitely not measuring how fast the CD is being read.

Never seen that before... I rip all mine Ape, Secure, High Quality.
Most of the time I get around 4x.. Which makes sence.

I'm ripping them WITHOUT the "encode while ripping" option, so the rip takes place, then the encode takes place.

So is this a malfunction, or is the number indicating something other than the "traditional" CD speed?

I care --- or I wouldn't have asked.  I like to keep an eye on the speed so I can spot potential issues with both the media and the drive itself without having to do a specific test.  It's also a matter of "polish" for MC -- whether or not a feature like this is included (or if an included feature works or not) effects the overall character of a product.

I've seen the problem when simultaneous rip/encode is disabled. I'll try to get it fixed for tonights build.

I've posted about this before as I started noticing this in the .64 build. It is still doing this in the .74 build. I haven't tried anything newer than that this week as I'm on a dial up.
