IS MEDIA JUKEBOX COMPATIBLE WITH XP?
« on: July 30, 2003, 01:56:03 pm »

I DOWNLOADED THE MJ8 DEMO VERSION.  WHEN I TRIED TO IMPORT FILES IT WOULD LOCK UP.
I TRIED EVERYTHING, INCLUDING INSTALLING AND REINSTALLING MJ8 A TOTAL OF 2 TIMES AND A THIRD TIME ON ANOTHER COMPUTER.

EVERY TIME I TRIED TO IMPORT FILES IT WOULD LOCK UP IMMEDIATELY.

I TRIED BOTH JUST IMPORTING ONE FOLDER OF MP3 FILES AND ALSO TRIED A GENERAL HARD DRIVE SEARCH FOR MP3 FILES AND IT WOULD STILL LOCK UP ALMOST IMMEDIATELY.

EACH TIME I HAD TO USE WINDOWS TASK MANAGER TO EXIT THE PROGRAM BECAUSE IT LOCKED UP SO COMPLETELY THAT I WAS UNABLE TO EXIT THE PROGRAM.

IT SEEMS MAYBE THERE IS AN MJ8 COMPATIBILITY PROBLEM WITH XP AND I DON'T WANT TO BUY MJ9 UNTIL I HAVE SUCCESSFULLY TRIED THE DEMO FIRST.

THANKING YOU IN ADVANCE,

TOM

Try importing directory by directory to see if you can find out whether a file causes it.

Also, it may just be thinking.  Try waiting longer.

BTW, if you switch off the caps lock, everyone will breathe easier.

As the King mentioned, bad file tagging will bring MJ to its knees. Sometimes it handles it gracefully, other times not. Put an audio CD in and rip it to MP3 VBR and play them (to test playback functionality). Are you running the 399 build? Hit the web for the scad's of mp3 taggers that are available. Use one of them to check out your current files.

But MJ should not hang or crash when it finds one.  We can fix anything that does this, but we need the file.
