identifying tracks on cds created in media center

any idea on why my laptop media center 10 doesn't see the names of tracks on cds created in media center 10 on my desktop?

Without knowing your setup, I'll just give you a few ideas.

The standard cd audio format is just one bare audio track after another with no information except start position and length.  A program could associate artist, album, title etc. to each track if you type it in or if you find a match on an online datebase (based on a discs "fingerprint") or if the same program knew the track info when it burned the tracks.

  There is something that can be added called cdtext but I don't believe many drives or much software support it.

  So if you knew which files on your desktop pc stored this database of cd info for Media Center, you could copy it to your laptop and Media Center would recognize it there too.  Sorry don't know what file it would be for Media Center.

I see. So the track info is not actually on the cd but on the HP desktop and that is why the Sony laptop doesn't see it. Thanks. I could easily find the file you are talking about. This isn't a big problem as I usually do this with MP3 files on an internal or external hard drive or use my iPod.
