I have recently finished ripping my 500+ cd collection with media center into ape files.  I have noticed, however, that many of the songs seem to have a 1-3 second gap, and one has two gaps.  The gaps are in the file because when i replay that section the gap is still there.  All the files were ripped into WAV and then converted to .APE.  I did this so that the ripping would be quicker and then i could just batch encode over night.  It seems like around one in 20 files have this problem.  

So i have two questions; firstly is there any way to do a search to identify the offending songs, for instance search for all songs with more than a one second silence in the file? Secondly has anyone else had an issue like this before or does anyone know of a possible cause for this.  All my cds are still in my old disc changers so it is no problem to search for an offending disc and rerip but i am sellling them soon so i would like to do it while i have easy access to the cds, and with something like 7000 files it will be a long time before i discover all of the offending songs.

The only way I know to locate silence in those files would be to use something like Audiotools. It has the ability to seek to silence. But hen of course you will have to listen to determine if it is intended or in error.

For the things MC does not do Audiotools is one that gets used tmie and again here. Also, the author is cut from the same cloth as the MC crew. Open to ideas and very responsive.

does it have the ability to batch check the files and list the offending files and where in them it detects the silence ?

I downloaded audiotools, but i can't see where it allows you to simple run a check for silence, it seems like the track has to have been recorded and then it checks for silence.  Even then it seems like this is simply to find tracks in a file and split, which is not exactly what i want to do, but i guess i could use that sice i am going to rerip anyway.  So if you could give me some info on how to do a search through a bunch of files that were not recorded previously that would be great.
