Newbie questions (indexing albums and cover art)
« on: April 27, 2004, 11:00:26 am »

OK, I just purchased Media Center.

I have a media server, and I had it index that media server.  I ran into this:

Click on "Media Library" (left hand pane).  Select Media Type=all, Album Artist (Auto) Beastie Boys

Under artists it shows Beastie Boys and 1 album, "Ill COmmunication" (normal, default view)

However, on the server in the Beastie Boys directory there are several albums.  They are not listed under the normal view.  Now if I go to the lefthand side and select

Media Library -> Audio-> Disk Location->M:->b->Beastie Boys

It shows all of the albums that I have (5 of them).

So why do they not show up in the "normal" method of viewing?  Does it have to do w/ IDv2/3 tags, or what?

Also, when in normal view I highlight and album and start playing it.  WHile the album is highlighted I click to get MC to download the album cover art.  However, it downloads this and applies it only to the currently playing song.  Is there a way that I can get it to apply the cover art to every song in that album's directory at once instead of doing this over and over again for each individual song?

Thanks,

Take a look at the properties.  Select a file or several files and hit Alt-Enter to view the properties.  Then set the album or image.

OK, this explains why The Beastie Boys stuff was not all listed properly.  Some of the ID tags listed the artist as Beastie Boys, and some listed it as The Beastie Boys.

It would be nice to be able to somehow ignore the word "the" if it appears as the first word in an album, but that is very minor.

However, I did not see in that view how to set the album art for all songs under a single album at once.

However if I highlight an album I can't download the art.  What does work is to highlight all of the songs within an album and then download the image and it will apply it.  I guess to do everything at once I have to go to "All" at the top of each column, and then in the song list select them all and then download the art.  It works, just needs better docs I think.

Thanks for your tips!

Under Tools>Options>Tree & View>Sorting, click Ignore articles (a, an, the).

Thanks!  DO I have to reindex everything for that to work?  It didn't do anything immediatelyu,a nd I exited out and started it back up and that didn't do it either.

[EDIT] - OK, what it seems to do is then list the artists Beastie Boys and The Beastie Boys right next to each other, but does not consolidate if the article is ignored and the rest matches in the name.  At least they are next to each other and they are much easier to find.

Thanks again,
