Format conversion tool / Multiple artists album
« on: February 14, 2004, 04:25:54 am »

I tried to use the format conversion tool (MC 9.316) to convert the songs of a multiple artist album (ape to mp3).
The original files are stored under x:\MyMusic\assorted\<album name>. I expected to get the same folder structure in the new location. But I got all the different folders x:\MyMP3\<artist>\<album name>

Did I miss a checkbox or another option?

I have now MC 10.0.130 installed.
When converting Multiple Artist Albums (ape to mp3) to a different location I still get folders for every artist everyone containing one converted song.
I like to get one new folder ...\assorted\<album-name> containing all the converted songs.

Is it a bug or what can I do better? Help me,  please.

Maybe try changing the settings in Tools/Options/File Location.

Thanks rocketsauce for your tip. Why didn’t I try this before?  :-[

I started for this workaround, but unfortunately wasn’t successful.
Took two different tries:

1. Changed directory rule under |Options|File Location| to assorted\[album]
  • Got still the wrong resulting subfolder structure ([artist]\[album])
  • The converting tool does not consider the ‘directory rule option’ at all and I think that’s o.k.
2. Changed directory rule to [album] and the converter settings location to …\assorted\
  • Got still the wrong resulting subfolder structure ([artist]\[album]) under ..\My Music\assorted\
I can uncheck the converter settings option create ‘Artist/Album subdirectories here’, but then, I get a mess when I convert more than one multiple-artists album in one rush.
So I am helpless. There might be a bug in the converter tool.
