Where does MC10 write a song's rating to?
« on: May 19, 2004, 09:15:28 pm »

I am running MC10 and have rated many of my songs.  I am about to reformat my computer and have copied my songs to another harddrive.

If I reformat, will I lose all my ratings, or does MC write the ratings (and playcounts) to the id3 tag?  If it writes the info to the id3 tag I should be fine.  And one more thing, do you know which fields MC stores these items to in the id3 tag?

Thanks!

As long as you back up your library you should be fine.
You can find instructions in the MC Help file.

File
Library
Back Up Library

Save it to a disc, and put it back on your computer after you format...

Perfect.  Do you know though if it indeed stores the ratings/play counts in the id3 tag or does it definitely not?  This will help me in syncing back to itunes to maintain my ratings (unless I can sync my ipod to MC10 and have MC10 use its ratings and playcounts).

It does store the ratings inside the file unless you changed the setting for this field via Tools> options> tree & view.

You can see the contents of the tags via a page in the Action Window.  I think it's something like File Info.
