Customizing [Playing Now] view sorting ?
« on: May 21, 2004, 01:33:19 am »

Hi,

I recently tried the MC deskbar and noticed that when searchin+playing whole albums the track sequence that MC plays back was not correct (i.e 1,2,3...). The same search from within MC would always playback the correct track sequence as shown below.

Screenshot 1: playing now after searchin "who's next" with the deskbar

Screenshot 2: playing now after searchin "who's next" within MC

As the Seq column in the "playing now" was not correct, I tried to force the playing now playlist to use a different sorting order by using the "Customize current view" on  playing now. In the sorting section of the dialog it seems possible to override the default sorting [Seq (a-z)]. but the change does not stick and when pressing OK, the default (Seq) sorting is back !!!!

Is it possible to force a custom sorting order on Playing Now ?

This would (I guess) solve my problem with funky track sequence when playing whole albums with the deskbar.

Edit: Well, thinking about it, I don't think customizing the sorting in "playing now" would really help on the matter, but anyway clues are welcome, thanks.

cheers,

Christian

Update,

Ok, after a little more investigation, I found that the "funky" sequ order that I mentioned above is in fact the order of appearance of tracks in the database (mediafiles.jmd). I opened the file in notepad and searched for "who's next" in the file and found the tracks in this exact "funky" sequence !!

later....

C I had a similar problem to this before. Thw way to solve it is top remove the "funky" albums from MCs database and then reimport them...

Hi Adams,

Thanks for the tip. I tried it on one album and it works :)
but I need to go thru all my albums (+1500) to check the "funky" ones, or re-import everything but then I loose all my history, number played and last played !
I was so proud of my Database that date backs to the MJ8 days and survived numerous upgrades!! (oldest played, oldest imported 3 years ago )  :'(

not the end of the world though  :D

Have a nice day,

Don't re-import -- we'll get to the bottom of this.

Newer builds should use the sorting from the root of Media Library (in 'All' Media Mode).  Double-check there that you have track number in the sorting sequence.

Hi Matt,

Great News !
Yep, the track number is in the right sequence when searching from the root of Media Library in 'All' Mode.

Thanks Matt,

Christian

Does it make a difference if MC is running or not when you type the search?  And are you for sure running the latest MC?

Thanks Christian.

Hi Matt,

Problem seems to be fixed  !! :D

Was running MC 10.0.138, updated to 139 and, Wow !,
"who's next" by "The Who" is playing in the right sequence order from JR deskbar !!

Thanks Matt, I should have tried this first.

Have a nice week-end,

cheers,

Christian
