Removing 'New Album' from panes
« on: May 24, 2004, 06:22:03 am »

Is there any way I can remove the 'New Album' entry from the panes? It (and the checkboxes) appear whenever I click on an individual track. It's unnecessary if I'm not in tagging mode (which is 100% of the time).

If it's not is it possible things could be re-jigged so they aren't necessary? Or at least change the appearance so that New Album is dissimilar to the actual albums.

Thankyou, Matty.

Check MC Help for properties.  You can remove or add fields.  You can also "grab" the column header and move it.

Sorry I didn't explain myself clearly. This is what I mean:

In Media Library, I have two panes; Album Artist (auto) and Album. If I then click on any artist, their albums appear in the Album pane.

Then if I were to click on any song in the Content Pane, everything in the above two panes shows checkboxes beside. Also, each pane has at the bottom of all the listings a new entry. AA (auto) has a New Album Artist (auto) entry and Album has a New Album entry.

All these checkboxes and new entries seem useless and space filling when one isn't in tagging mode (which I never am).

It doesn't seem like a big deal (and of course it isn't) but it would be preferred if it was indeed possible to lose these additions somehow. If I click on an artist with 2 albums, I only want to see those two albums, rather than, for eg.

Is This It
Room on Fire
New Album

Thanks for any help/response/thoughts/ideas.

I don't know.  Perhaps you can think of it as a "feature" rather than "unnecessary clutter." :)  Have you tried clicking on it when you are not in tagging mode?  It's pretty nifty--instuctions pop up and everything.  (I never even noticed that until very recently. :P)

Besides, I'd bet you a dollar that if they removed it, you'd have a bushel full of people crying out, "Hey!  Every time I go into tagging mode, the panes change.  It's annoying.  Stop it!"  ::)

Okay, so this isn't a helpful response, I know, but my other favorite website is down, so I was bored.  :P

Of course it was helpful.

In response though, my question is, why have different modes if the layout is similar anyhow? I haven't even "entered" tagging mode, but I bet there's differences when you enter it, otherwise why have a separate mode? So if they are other differences, why not this small difference as well?

Also, there's always two sides to every argument. And for every action there's a reaction. But there's no reason to think that losing the "New Album" etc. entry would affect more people negatively than positively. And if the two sides are somewhat equal (or even if they aren't) just allow the option, let us make the choice ourselves.

PS- Anyone reading the above might come to the conclusion that I feel that the programmers of this great product aren't listening to its consumers and their demands/requests. I urge that this isn't my belief, quite the contrary. In this instance, I'm merely pondering whether it is now possible to do what I wish, and if not, by having a voice in this forum I know that my wish is heard by programmers and consumers alike.

Omni, and you thought you were bored..  ;)  :)

I haven't even "entered" tagging mode

Play with it some.  It's a really slick way to make changes to your files.

The "New Value" word is necessary to assign a value that doesn't exist yet.  It could appear when tagging mode was enabled.  However, since it's only there when files are selected and not when you just click in the panes, we don't think it's too visually intrusive.

Feel free to sound off.

Ahh yes, I've played around with it and definitely see its (tagging mode) usefulness. In turn I see the necessity for the "New ___" entry. I still maintain however that it's unnecessary for when not in tagging mode. Anyone else agree?

It seems something you'd want for beginners to make them aware of the possibilities but for everyone else is obstrusive (for lack of a less-harsh word. it's late ;)).

Anyone second me? Anyone at all?..  :(

I've learnt to ignore it...

Would be cool if it only showed when in tagging mode, but doesn't really bother me.

I'll vote for 'only in tagging mode'.
Why it appeared confused me until now. I'm never in tagging mode.

I, personally, don't think tagging mode is worth the time. I do everything through the action window or inline editing.

One reason is that you have to click the check box again after it tells you about tagging mode. This could be changed to just show the box afterwards instead of doing it again. Sometimes I forget what I'm doing.

Another is that most of the time, the artists/albums I want to have tagged are not even in the list. Not gonna go into much detail about that.

A good thing about it is if you are making a lot of changes at once...but then again, most of the items aren't there to be clicked.
