copying audio files and retaining cover art
« on: August 08, 2004, 02:46:11 pm »

i want to take a copy of my music and put it on another pc with a fresh library. the files copy fine but the cover art is stored in a seperate directory and i cant manually alter where MC looks for the art, so is there a way to fix this without resorting to using the exact naming structure of the cover art directory?

I store my cover art inside the file for this precise issue. What's another 50k in an mp3's filesize?

Apologies if you're not using mp3 format.

Pip, just a dumb question...but why can't you alter the directory that MC looks for the cover art?  I changed mine when I wanted to make a backup of the coverart before I put it inside the files.  It seemed to wrok fine..or do you mean something else and I'm just not getting it (wouldn't be the first time  :-\  )  Bet

you mean by changing:

tools > options > file location > track image location?

i tried that but it didnt seem to do anything, even after i updated the library / tags. i thought that was simply where mc stored 'new' art. the database 'looks' wherever the 'image file' field tells it to

that's what I thought at first, until I tried the "quick search" option...and it found all the coverart in the backup folder ..had to hilight all the files, though, first.

Pip, here's what i did:   copied all my cover art files to the new folder (cvrart bkup) in my new directory (L),  then opened tools, options, and changed the coverart directory to L:cvrart bkup.  Then I reopened MC, selected all files and under image options chose the quick find in cover art directory and bingo, there they were.  PS  did a few test batches before I did the whole library  'cause I am famous for not getting it the first time  ;D - I did this when I was having some problems with my Zen and was trying to find the files that were causing the problem, so removed all my cover art from inside the files to help pinpoint the prob (again thanks to Steve for helping me get that ironed out ;D  )

How 'bout storing all your cover art in the directory with the tracks (as Folder.jpg)? That way (under Windows XP) you get to see it from Windows Exploder, and if you copy the directories, the cover art goes with it.

That's what I do...
