AAC file support
« on: September 19, 2004, 10:33:06 am »

I just noticed the High Quality advanced feature for MC's mp3 encoder which I appreciate.  However,

I was wondering if there are any new developments for AAC file support in MC.

I realize the licensing fees must be outrageous.  It's just that the marketing sounds soooo great, something about even audiophiles cannot distinguish AAC files from the originals

It's always better to do some own listening comparisons with your preferred music and bitrate range, before you decide what format at which setting to use.

Concerning the licensing fees it's possible e.g. for a rather small Australian company called 3ivx.com to pay them to ViaLicensing for their DirectShow AAC encoder based on FAAC (open source LGPL) and decoder based on Coding Technologies HE AAC codec. So it's a myth that no one except Apple or RealNetworks can afford them.
