Output directory could not be created...
« on: October 28, 2004, 09:17:21 pm »

All of a sudden, when I try to rip a CD, I get the error message:

The output directory could not be created for 1 or more files. Please double-check the output directory in the ripping options.

This happens on my new Rod Stewart Stardust CD. It rips fine in WMP.

And, I just tested on another CD, and it ripped fine.

Any thoughts?

Oh, I tried on V. 10.0.173, and 10.0.161 with same results.

Rod Stewart: "Stardust...The Great American Songbook: Volume III"

Very likely it's the dots or the colon. MC has had some difficulties with them.

A workaround:

Rip that album to a differently named folder (e.g. to "Rod Stewart\Stardust - The Great American Songbook Volume III"). You can still have the correct Album tag.

Thanks Alex.  In another thread I suspected an "!", but didn't realize that the 3 dots could be a problem.  I'll try and see if that fixes it.

Thanks.

I have succeeded in getting it in, but I had already gone a long way around. I used WMP to rip it (it didn't do FLAC), then I converted the files to FLAC with Media Center. Then MC wouldn't bring it into the library. I tried renaming the directory after reading your reply, and it still wouldn't come in. I got it there by selecting all the files in Windows Explorer, and selecting Play in Media Center.

So, I just tried your suggestion to see if that works for me. I could not figure out how to change the name like you said. The directory options were all rules. No way that I could see to actually specify a name.  But I guess I could change to something other than album name and do it.

For example:

Or write the whole path temporally to "Base Path" and remove the directory rule.

As I wrote this is a workaround. Normally MC changes characters that cannot be used to underscores, but there seem to be some problems. I would say: bugs.
