MC11, Multi Zones and Netremotes
« on: December 24, 2004, 12:16:11 pm »

I am currently using MC 10 with multizones and have and issue which I am wondering if MC 11 solves

The Issue - When I change the active zones all my netremote PDAs change to this new current zone. I would like to allow a netremote to remain linked to specific zone and show the now playing info of that zone.

Also is there a full list of MC 11 funtionality / documentation I can veiw.

Thanks in advance

Zones? NetRemote? I think I hear somebody calling for me...  ;D

Yes, it does solve that problem. Changing the active zone or changing zones in one NetRemote client won't affect other NetRemote clients.

Actually I was thinking you may answer this. I have spent some time on your website. Thanks for all the effort you have spent putting it together. I am out of reach of my media server (At relatives for xmas) I will download 11 in a few days and try.

You're welcome! Nice to know that somebody can learn something from my efforts. I will do an update on that webpage in a few weeks, when version 11 and my new LUA version of the playlist selecter has gotten the mrs. M seal of approval (which mainly means that in a few weeks I say: "Have you noticed antyhing special about the music system?" and if she answers "No," or "It seems a bit faster and more rensponsive," then it has the seal)!  ;)

Sound good, I will let you /other know how I get on. My task for the holidays are

1) figure out the kx drivers to set up 4 x 2 channel with a miniumum of processing, excellent driver not the best documentation.

2) To get my gloabal cache GC-100 12 integrated with with netremote.

3) Run way too many metres of cable to my in ceiling speakers

I will let you know how my exploits turn out. Do you have a personal message account on one of the many forums you visit.

Any way "God Jule"

Mastiff on Promixis is always the best bet, I'm there every day. But I prefer questions in open forum, since it assures that everybody can benefit from the answers, MC questions here, and NetRemote/Girder questions over there. And GlobalCache questions are best asked there. That's something I know nothing about, I use the USB-UIRT.

This is really more of a Promixis forum question, but...

You change zones on NetRemote (with the standard demo CCF) by clicking Control and going up or down there. But to link a specific instance of NetRemote demands a bit more involvement. You name your zones, and then you need to add an action from the front page of your CCF (I'm sure that action can be done with LUA as well, but not how) that goes to the MC page and sets a certain zone as active. You can see it in my CCF, downloadable here: http://www.promixis.com/download.php?ID=34

On each of the three MC pages there are buttons named as zones, and in their action you can see how it's done. You just have to replace the zone name I have put there with the zone name you will be using.

Hi Mastiff,

I would post this on the Netremote site but the registration server apears to be down, so having trouble joining.

I am not sure if we have crossed lines here.

I can happliy change active zones, this however updates all link netremote clients.

I was advised by ben at promixis that MC11 had new functionality that allows independant links to a zone for each netremote client. I am trying to access this functionlity in mediacenter.

Hope I am not asking what you have already answered I may (am) be confussed

Cheers

You sure you're using the right remoteserver.dll? The version that comes with MC 11 when you install it is sort of...ancient.  ;D You need the one from the NetRemote suite. In fact, just install the media bridge on your computer, then it will make sure that the remoteserver.dll isn't changed by installing newer alphas/betas of MC. That is probably your problem.

The promixis registration is still down so will contine her for now.

I have downloaded and installed the 11- Dec net remote suite.

I now have a mediabridge icon on my task bar.

When I click on it displays the following

Mediabridge 1.0
"PC Name"(127.0.0.1)
0 clients connected

The port is set to the same as MC11
Start with window is checked
and Mediacenter is selected

I have a number of questions

1) even when i have 2 clients connected it still displays 0 clients connected. I suspect I am some how meant to conect direct to mediabridge and not MC11 but dont now how.

2) I am still unclear what I have to do to link specific netremotes to specific zones (so when the active zone changes it does not effect other netremote clients)

(Mastiff if you would like to post this on the proxixis site on my behalf that would be fine, although it may be to much of a pain. I will do it when the reg server is back on line. I guess the promixis server gurus are on vacation)

1. No, you're not supposed to connect to anything else than MC. I'm not sure why it shows 0 clients, but I suspect that the client number may be for connection to Windows Media Player and iTunes, who don't have the same possibilities as MC. For MC MediaBridge only assures that MC is running, and that the remoteserver.dll on MC is the current one.

2. I'm still a bit unclear on that one. It should work the way that the active zone is the first zone you'll get when you connect to MC (opening NR), but if you change zones you should remain on that zone no matter what goes on with MC on the server computer. I will do a few tests tomorrow (it's around 11 P.M. here and I have a cold, so I'm already in bed with a very bad temper...) and see if it works that way.

Ok, thanks for the message hope the cold is getting better.

I will also do some further testing but I have a strange problem to solve, my netremote are recieving info from MC eg now playing stuff. However no of my button are sending commands to MC, these all worked before. I I solve this I will also test further.

Cheers

Ok have solved the issue with netremote only recieving information not sending commands. The issue was something to do with having MC10 and 11 on the same PC. Will test on seperate PCs from now on.

Thanks, but I'm afraid it will take it's one week regular course... And I have tested now, and changing the zone on one NetRemote client doesn't change it on any of the others, and neither does changing the active zone in MC. So they are totally independent.
