Playlist Persistance?
« on: February 17, 2005, 05:39:26 pm »

I am going to reorganize my files into new folders and it looks like from some testing that playlists are not rememberd when files are moved.  Is there a way to fix this?

I am also going from 2 folders, one with albums and one with random mp3's.  I want to have one folder with artist then album folders, what is the best way to accomplish this with the least amount of hassle?

The folder with albums will also be transcoded from flac to mp3, so let me know if there are any problems with that.
Thanks

How are you moving them

In MC or External Tool?

Well I downloaded some new music which I always place in a folder titled 'new music' then once I have tagged it right, I then move those files to one of my 2 main folders mentioned above.  When I did this I had some of the music listed under a favroite albums playlist and when I re-imported them all the tag info was there but not the playlist associations.

Maybe I should not import them and try another way?

I also tested an album file conversion FLAC - MP3 and it looks like with the new artist album structure that MC was able to keep the playlist association however this will not work for when I take my random mp3's and move those to the new artist folder.

Now I get it.  I didn't understand what you meant by external tool.  I was using the 'Windows Explorer' browsing system but now I see I can use MC to move the files instead!

Yes

But "Rename" works better

Because you can move and also file the media files into folders using fields like "Artist", "Album" etc. using rules

MC maintains its playlists, but it doesn't use file tags for identifying the files. The links in playlists get broken if the files are reimported. As already said: Import first and move by MC Tools. There are many tools to choose from.
