How to..... Change the Cover Art Directory
« on: March 26, 2005, 08:08:41 pm »

I thouht this would be really easy.  I must be missing something.

I reorganised the directory structure of my library (through MC Library Tools) from M:\Music\ to M:\Media\Music\.

I can't see how to move the cover art by similar methods.

If I move (copy) the cover art files manually to their new location, I can't seem to reassociate the files and their images other than one by one.

I have tried "Quick FInd in File/ Cover Art Directory" and I have changed the "Default IMage Location".

I have now noticed that "Quick FInd in File/ Cover Art Directory" has changed some files, maybe 30%.
In some cases it has done 3 tracks from an album leaving the other 8 tracks with the old path.  How can that be?

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Hi Mark... Long time...

Quick find should work if the covers are there.  And if you've set the cover art directory correctly.

Check what's actually in the new directory.

I just don't get it at all.
The files are there in the new Default Image Directory and the Quick Find has found some of SOME of them.
But even the ones that it has not found ARE there!

Is there another way I can tamper directly with the database, or make "Find & Replace" act upon ImageFile, or something?

What's different about the ones that work and don't work?

Naming?

Format?

What version are you using?  Have you tried updating?

i would be interested in seeing a file name and the tags of that media file

and also the file name of the image file you think should match to that media file.

if the tags are not the same as the image file, file name then it will never find it.

there is no magic here where MC can find a image file if the tags and file name do not match.

These are media files and images which were sucessfully associated with each other, up until yesterday, for some years.   Ever since I ran King's Cover Art Grabber in the early days of V8 in fact.

I can't see any pattern rhyme or reason to it.
For example all of the album Black , Brown and Beige - Duke Ellington has the image
M:\Music\Cover Art\Black, Black, Brown and Beige - Duke Ellington.jpg
associated with it.
Using Quick Find has corrected, seemingly at random, 8 tracks to use
M:\Media\Cover Art\Black, Brown and Beige - Duke Ellington.jpg
leaving the other 12 tracks with the old association.

Trying a few different things I have now found that using "Get from Internet" using "Download if Missing" will tidy up some of the remaining - again a pattern between why it does some and not others is difficult to see.

Version & System Info as follows:-

it is all in the tags and the file name of the jpg

what you listed above

Black , Black, Brown and Beige - Duke Ellington.jpg

and then you listed it

Black, Brown and Beige - Duke Ellington.jpg

makes no sence

you need to look at your tags and image name closer

What i I intended to communicate above is that the image filename is identical for some files that are found and for some that are not found.

Please ignore typos

No, clearing the fiedl first did not work.

King, has your Cover Art Finder been updated to V10 or beyond?
Potentially it would be easier and faster to re-run the cover art finder than reset these manually album by album.
