Plasma Display
« on: March 27, 2005, 04:18:54 am »

I am sure someone out there has a 42" Hitachi Plasma display...  I need some advice on which Video card to use to be able to drive the plasma screen using the PC Monitor input at the right resolution.

At the moment my desktop looks squashed and all the people in my photos look short and fat.

Happy Easter to ALL,

You need a program called powerstrip, which will allow you to set a custom resolution that matches your Plasma display. My panasonic is 848x480 so I use powerstrip to force this resolution.  After installing powerstrip check the specs of your TV and set everything to match (res, scan rate and refresh rate).  I use a Radeon 9800 Pro card.  The 9600 Pro is a cheaper option and a very capable video card.

Many thanks; now all I have to do is find the wretched manual that came with the TV.  Everyone is going to look taller and slimmer.  Perhaps the software needs a new marketing angle...

No instruction manual to hand, so I ended up trying all the resolutions until one fitted.  Thank you - now I have a great display!  And all I have to do is change the font size for MC...

What screen size did you choose in the end? I have a 32 inch Hitachi I`d like to try your settings

It's important not to try a refresh rate that's too high as I think this can damage your screen.  There is a good forum over at powerstrip and the support is very good if you have any issues.

Just back in front of my screen - sorry ( been away for a while )...
It's a Hitachi 42" ( not 32" ).  I'm using 1280 x 768 at 59Hz and it seems to work well.
