WinOutWest,

I am glad you got it working.

Actually, when I was trying to figure this out earlier I tried several skins. I'm not sure if I tried PixOS too. However, I can't reproduce this on my three totally different PCs. (P4 XP desktop & MC11.0.272, Athlon W2k desktop & MC11.0.271 and P4 XP laptop & MC 11.0.264.)

It must be a combined effect of certain HW and/or SW and PixOS. Weird indeed.

Waffenschmidt,

Could you check if your system has anything unusual in common with WinOutWest's system?

Edit

Nice find. I wonder if you both have the same video card.

I have exactly the same Intel chipset and Video card (on my P4 XP desktop) with WinOutWest.

Can't right now 'cause I'm late for work, but I will post specs as soon as I can.  There isn't anything in my laptop that Dell didn't put there (other than memory).  I'll post running processes from Task Manager to see if there is anything odd in there we have in common.

Both video cards are ATI.

wino's card:

ATI 9600Pro.

It's possible that there is a driver problem.

Hmm, I meant I have the same Intel chipset and the same ATI video card. That's why I said earlier that his PCI report looked familiar.

All my PCs have ATI Radeon based video cards. Could it be a certain driver version or a certain driver option that is enabled (in case this has something to do with the video card)?

I have no deeper knowledge about the skinning system. Perhaps Matt could say what can be a possible cause and what not.

I just installed .271 on my Dell Latitude D600 with Mobility Radeon video and the PixOS skin and I don't have the issue.  It also runs fine on my other Desktop in the house which has an ATI All-In-Wonder 8500DV.

I don't remember, but did you try updating the video driver?

I didn't - but it would have been a relatively new version anyway as the build is 6 months old.  Also,  don't you think you would have seen this before now if it was a video driver problem?  I mean there has GOT to be a whole whack of people out there running MC and ATI cards.  Surely I'm not unique.

New doesn't always mean better.  Try a google search if you want to get more info on ATI drivers.

Computers are funny animals.  No two are really alike.  You may be the victim of a "perfect storm".

Agreed - Stable is good which is why I generally don't update my video driver's unless I have a problem, especially on this PC where all I do is watch TV/DVD and listen to lots of Music.

yeah... just my luck - anyway there are at least two perfect storms that we know about.  I'm happy to continue to troubleshoot this with you guys if you want to get to the bottom of this.

Thanks again to everyone for your help on this!!
Cheers!

So it looks like we have similar if not essentially the same laptops.  I think you said yours is 6 months old, while mine is about 10 months old.  We're both running .271.  Yet I have the problem and you don't (on that laptop anyway).

To pursue the video driver theory, what version of the driver are you running?  I'm running the latest version from Dell, 6.14.10.6525, or what Dell calls A09.  I have a few earlier versions around (A05, A07 and A08), and could install one of them if any of them match up with what you have.  Or, if you like, you could upgrade to A09 and see if the problem appears.

Personally, I don't think it's a video card or driver problem, but hey, stranger things have happened.  It's certainly worth a shot.

This problem was finally duplicated and fixed in build 286.

Thanks for your patience.
