Synchronising with Pocket PC deletes files
« on: June 03, 2005, 06:33:48 pm »

I set up Media Center to sync a playlist with the CF card on my Ipaq and chose the option to Auto-delete tracks not in library from portables on Auto-sync. I thought this would ensure that only the tracks in the playlist stayed on the CF card; however, MC then proceeded to delete all my files on the CF card, i.e., image files, documents, databases, etc - files that had nothing to do with the playlist. No harm done, though: luckily I had backups.

Is this what it's meant to do?

Is there a way to designate a playlist in MC that will synchronise to a folder on a storage device on a Pocket PC?

The checkbox you selected says 'Delete files not selected' or something similar. MC will remove any files that are not set to sync (i.e are not in  a selected playlist) on the device.

When synchronizing, you select the playlists you want to sync. If you want them to go to a designated folder on a device, try going to Tools->Options->Handhelds->Configure remote or fixed drives and then browse to the folder where you want your music to go.  Name this path something and it will appear in the MC tree and then when you sync to it all music will go there.

The Pocket PC doesn't present itself as a removable or fixed drive so when you try to browse to a folder on the device the device isn't in the browse list. There doesn't seem to be a way to designate a particular folder on the device that will be automatically sync'd to.

Is your device visible in WMP?

If so, give me the exact name of the device (as it appears in WMP) and then tell me if there is a particular folder on that device that audio files should (must) be synched to and I can make your device compatible.

Steve,

Yes, it's shown as "CF Card" (there's also Pocket_PC and SD Card) and there's a folder called "My Music" that would be suitable.

Could you post a screenshot? Are you saying when you plug in your iPaq WMP shows three items, CF Card, Pocket_PC and SD Card? Does MC show the device at all? If not, this is not going to work.

Steve,

Yes, all three items show in WMP and in MC. In the MC tree I can see the folders on the CF Card, but in Options | Handheld | Configure remote and fixed drives for detection | Configure Handheld Paths | Set Path Information | Browse for Folder none of these items shows up.

I've got some screenshots but can't figure out how to post attachments; there's nothing about them under Additonal Options.
