Using 11.0.296 and a 4th Gen iPod I get the above error message and iPod will not connect.  This is a new computer and this is my first attempt at connecting iPod.

I had MC up when I connected the iPod for the first time.  I had a dialog come up prompting me to set up my synch preferences, I chose manual. When I clicked on iPod under drives, I got this error and cannot get further...

Using Explorer, browse on your iPod to the iPod_Control folder and locate a file called 'iTunesDB'. Delete the file. MC will recognize your iPod but not be aware of  any files on it.  At this point either right click on iPod in the tree and select 'Initialize iPod' (preferable) or right click and select 'Rebuild database on iPod'.
