Backing up cover art when it's stored in file
« on: June 29, 2005, 02:06:48 am »

Getting a little paranoid about all my tagging...

I can always rebuild the tags from my file names, but I want to have a fall back for the cover art.  At the moment, my library has all cover art stored within the files (where available).  Is there a way to run through the entire library and create a copy of the cover art in the same album folders in the format [Album] - [Artist].jpg

I've been around since the beginning of MC 9.0 and have always stored my cover art in the tag and kept the original jpg with the mp3 file and have never lost any cover art unless I lost the whole file and folder as in a hard drive crash, hence the reason for a backup drive to back up everything, (actually 2 in my case).

Unfortunately, I just stored my cover art within the file - no .jpg in the album folder.  Somewhere in the 280 builds there was something that didn't do well with cover art when editing any other aspect of the tags.  The problems that it caused were not readily apparent in MC, but only showed up when the files were played in another player (iPod & SlimServer).

So now, I am trying to be a good housekeeper and make sure that I can always re-build things if needed.

I suppose you can use KingSarta's CoverArt Finder plugin to re-find the art and then store it in both the tag and the mp3 folder or MC's cover art folder. MC gives you different storage options.

When you add cover art inside a file tag, a copy of the art is automatically added to your cover art folder (as defined in MC options).

So if you do a quick find in cover art directory MC should be able to find it again. Good luck!

I remember this post from January. You may be able to use it to do what you want:
