dual zone - audio volume not adjusting
« on: July 08, 2005, 10:24:48 pm »

I've got a dual zone setup with 2 audio cards and have configured MC for a zone on each card.  I find that regardless of which zone I have selected for the user interface, adjusting the volume through MC only adjusts the card that is set to 'default' in windows.

Is this a bug in MC, or do I have something configured wrong?

Internal Volume is the solution. Otherwise MC uses the master volume in the system default soundcard driver.

Internal Volume works only with internally decoded file types. Video files and some externally decoded audio files must be controlled from the soundcard mixer.

I see, so if you don't use 'internal volume' (which i find you need to set for each zone) MC can only adjust the system 'master volume' which there can only be one, regardless of how many soundcards you have.

Ok, well that seemed to work!

However, now I'm seeing another issue regarding NetRemote controlling MC:

I have NetRemote setup where I can switch between the two zones, and the play/stop/pause and library functionality in NetRemote properly switches when I use it to switch zones.  However adjusting the volume in NetRemote seems to adjust only the volume of the zone that is currently selected in MC's view.  For example, I have 'Office' and 'LivingRoom' zones.  If MC's view is on Office, and I select 'LivingRoom' on NetRemote and adjust the volume MC's 'Office' volume adjusts.  Is there a problem with my NetRemote setup?

Thanks,

Tim

What version of NetRemote? You need a version with Media Bridge, not one of the older versions that works on Remoteserver.dll.

I'm using NetRemove Pro+IR 1.1.0.31 (registered), which I believe is the latest.  My MC version is 11.0.297 (registered)

I snooped the MediaBridge protcol and discovered that the NetRemote client sends a command ('X NEXTZONE') to effectively change zones, therefore its up to the MediaBridge server component to instruct MC which volume to change based on zone.  So, either this is a bug in NR MediaBridge or perhaps my CCF file is using the wrong command to change 'zone' volume.  My CCF is setting the MP.Volume property which I would assume would be the volume of the current zone.

I also notice that when you change zone's via NetRemote it does not change the current zone in MC's GUI.  I don't think there is any problem with this, I just assume this means that the MediaBridge layer must instruct MC of the zone for each command it sends.

I'll cross-post this question to the NetRemote forums as this very well may be a MediaBridge bug.

There's no bug, as far as I can see on my system. I use other codes for volume, but they are ancient. Anyway, the point is that any NetRemote client can go to any MC zone without changing the active zone, so that's just as it should be.

Ok, so perhaps I need different codes?

What versions of MC and NetRemote are you using?

On my system the version of 'C:\Program Files\NetRemote MediaBridge\JRMCPlugin.dll' is '1.0.1990.15269'

What codes do you use that work?

Ooops!

My bad, I had NR 1.0.24.0 on my audio server... I wasn't up to date as I thought I was.  When I updated NR on the audio server to NR 1.1 (NetRemote-Pro-Suite-10-Jun-2005) this problem went away.  Apparently this was a bug with an earlier MediaBridge.
