What editor to use on mediafiles.jmd?
« on: July 12, 2005, 07:51:27 am »

I want to edit the file to change the location of the track images. The regular remove images and then fint them in the cataloge again won't work, since not all are formatted correctly. I tried with Wordpad, but it shows a bunch of blocks instead of characters, and I assume that will corrupt the whole library. So what should I use?

As far as know the .jmd files are in a proprietary binary format. Perhaps they could be edited with an advanced Hex editor that has search and replace capabilities. I have never tried that.

I have replaced my cover art locations by exporting the library in XML/MPL format and editing the files. After that I have imported the edited files to a new library.

Though, the MPL import seems to have some limitations. The import process seems to hang if the MPL files contain over about 15000 items. For big libraries the only way to do it is in parts.

MPL Importing is also as slow as the normal import even all library tags are already present in the files. MC goes through every file and checks them, unnecessarily in my opinion.

Last but not least MPL import does not honor the import dates in the files. It replaces the dates with the current date.

I have previously reported about these problems, but I didn't get any answers.

It would be much easier if MC would allow editing the Image File field with standard MC tools.

I agree totally with the last statement. OK, so maybe if I tick "store images in tags also", and do some kind of a verification, or something? And then remove the tick after having changed the default library directory in MC. Is that possible? Or perhaps the easiest way is to create a new drive for the media files and keep E: for covers only. That should be possible, right?
