Does MC11 have a problem with network drives, I have all my music files & folders on a mapped drive and any operation is very slow.

I tried renaming the Artist on a seletion of about 5 songs, then selected "rename from library properties" (or whatever) and I monitored the operation, it took about 2 mins for each song to be renamed.

Searching the mapped drive is painstakingly slow, it literally took days to get my 2,500 files into the Library.

If you don't have it, try build 309.  A change was made in one of the builds last week to speed up network drives.

The changes were made in the builds 11.0.307 and 308. The changes altered the tagging behavior. Before MC always retagged files when they were renamed or cover art links were changed. In many cases retagging means that files need to be completely rewritten. Rewriting a file means that the file is first read, then written to a temporally file and finally the original file is replaced. That slows down the operation especially on the network drives.

If you have downloaded MC11 from the main download page it is not yet the latest build. It is always a bit older because JRiver wants first to make sure the fixes or changes didn't break something else that would cause more serious harm. The latest build is available only in this forum. In my limited experience 11.0.309 is safe to use.

If your build was older, report how the situation changed with the build 309. Also, please post your system info from the Help menu and describe your network configuration exactly.

I have always felt importing/etc was very slow over ethernet.

Please try 309.

This past weekend I did a major library cleanup on my main PC which includes approx 4000 APE files and about another 1000 MP3's. This included moving and renaming files updating coverart etc.
Afterward I cleared the library on my kids PC's and reimported the music from the mapped drive.

Both systems completed the tasks in about 20 minutes. One system is an XP3000+ the other an XP1800+.

Not sure if this is considered good or bad but I thought it reasonable.

I am running 309.

The time can vary if you've got import options set differently.

I just upgraded to 309, network speed is much better, not "fast", but much, much better.

Still wont sync all my iPod tho.
