v. 8 & 9 Registration question
« on: October 02, 2002, 03:44:54 pm »

Hello.  Yes I just registered for these forums, but no I'm not a total stranger to MJ.

Anyway, I know this information has been addressed and I have been browsing about the forums but I was wondering exactly what the current deal is with MJ.  If I buy MJ 8 now I will get 9 without any additional payments until October 15 (after which it will cost an additional upgrade fee if I register after that date), correct?  This is what I've come to conclude but I just wanted again to be absolutely sure before I went ahead and registered.

Secondly, maybe I'm just being dumb here but does entering a credit card number in the field require dashes or is the entire number one continuous number?  I didn't want to enter my number in twice on the account of messing up the first time.

Thanks.

Through v.8 or should I d/l 9 then register through it?

That's what else that was throwing me off, which version I needed to register with or whatever.

"If I buy MJ 8 now I will get 9 without any additional payments until October 15 (after which it will cost an additional upgrade fee if I register after that date), correct? "

Does hat mean, that I have to pay additional payments after October 15th (e.g. to update my MJ9)?
Is this upgrade fee only for 8.X customers?

I Hope that this means, waht I think to understand:
If I would buy the MJ 9 till October 15, I would pay the old 8.X price and also no upgrade fee, instead of registering after that date?

Anway, when I buy MJ9, how can I download it MJ9? Is there a link or somethin, after I bought it? I don't find a MJ9 download on this site. As you mentioned in the history, the new 9.0 license won't work with 8.X.

Thanks

Michael

Correct.  You can also buy 9 by downloading from the beta board.  Get there from "Home" above.  You might wait until the next build is out later this afternoon.

O.K.

But I didn't found the 'beta board'. When I click 'Home', I'm on the frontsite, where I didn't find a link to the beta board.
Perhaps you mean 'Developement', I dunno?

But that was no problem. I logged onto your ftp-server and downloaded it that way.

Sorry, there are two homes above.  It's the other one (two lines below where you went).

As a follow up, I did register for the current MJ 8 price.  However, since 9 is still in beta (or is it alpha since the load screen says so even though i have 9.0.63 unless that wasn't a true beta build).

My question though, is it possible to get 8 back until 9 gets more stable?  Just wondering.  I haven't had any trouble out of 9 yet, but when I try to update through 9 it says that version 8 is the update.  If I go ahead and install the 8 update, then when I reload after the install, it says the database isn't compatible.  So does that mean I can't use 8 anymore or is there a way around this problem?

Just curious...

You can switch between 8 and 9 freely.  Your data files are the .jmd files in C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\Data.

When you go from 8 to 9, they will be automatically converted and the old files are backed up in C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\Data\Upgrade Backups.

When you change from 9 to 8, you can move these files back to C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\Data.

Just to be clear, you can't use an MJ 9 library in MJ 8 -- only the other way around.

That would explain my problem then.  V.8 didn't seem to like my v.9 registration.  It's not a huge deal though, I like the features in v.9 well enough to warrant my keeping the development software around.  I'll update as soon as there is another version released, though.
