I am using an Audiovox Maestro PDA and MC11 and I get errors when trying to sync files.  The PDA is running the Pocket PC 2002 OS.

After converting files to 48 bit WMA format, MC errors when trying to copy the converted file to the PDA.  I get messages for each file in my transfer list that state:

Transfer errors. (1 files)

<Filename>  transfer failed
-2147201015

Can you copy the same converted files to the device using another application?

Yes I can.  I am able to copy the file to/from the PDA using Windows Explorer and also using Windows Media Player.

Update:

It also appears to work on a single file through MC but fails on a batch of files.

I just discovered another odd thing that may be related.

If I select the PDA under Drives & Devices, there is a summarized list of all the files on the right pane.  If I try to select a file on that right pane and select delete I get a message of "File not found".

However, if I expand the subfolders under the PDA on the left pane, navigating down to the specific folder where the file exists, and then select and delete it in the right pane it deletes the file without an error message.

Not sure exactly what is going on here but can chase it more effectively when I am back from vacation. In the meantime you could try browsing on your PDA for a database.xml file and then delete it which will force MC to rebuild it. From the description of your problem, this file seems to be corrupted. You can accomplish the same thing by right clicking on your device and selecting the option for 'rebuild database file' or something similar.

If I right-click on the device, no menu appears.  If I browse the device using Windows Explorer, there is no database.xml file but there is an MC.dc and MC.dic file.

From Explorer, try deleting the .dc and .dic files and then copy one file without conversion to the device and see what happens.

The behavior is identical to my "reply #3" above.

I have an idea why this is, but not a suggestion for what to do unless I can test this device.

Lets look at the transfer error for a little. Can you copy files if you do not convert them during the transfer?

I think I might see where you are going with this...

I manually selected 4 files and added them to a list of tracks to transfer to the device using the Send To Device and I had the device set to not convert the files.  The files transferred without incident.

Then I exited MC, removed the files from the device (including the MC.dic and MC.dc files) using Windows Explorer, and re-opened MC.

This time I repeated the process, using the same 4 files, except the device was set to convert the files to a 48 bit CBR Windows Media file.  The first 3 files converted and transferred without incident, but it failed to transfer on the last file with the aforementioned error message.
