MPG Video Files: Sometimes no sound, Sometimes crash
« on: October 09, 2005, 11:29:23 am »

I find that when I play stand alone MPG files sometimes they play no problem and other times they play without sound.  This has been an issue for me in both MC10 and 11.  However, now that I've upgraded to 11, I find that MC often crashes after the MPG file has finished playing.

Is this an issue with my MPEG decoder?

When I go to Video Decoder properties, both the copyright and Video Options tabs are pretty much the same:

CineMaster DS
MPEG-2 Video Decoder
Copyright 200-2002
Sonic Solutions
Video Decoder Version: 2.5.03.0806

I believe this decoder comes from installing TheaterTek (which I really don't use that much as I prefer the all-in-one solution of Media Center).

Any ideas???

Thanks,
Trent

Try this:  http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/codecs_and_filters/ffdshow.cfm

or this:  http://www.doom9.org/software.htm / filters / ffdshow-20041012.exe
- some users like this "official" older build better.

Thanks for the link.  I've installed ffdshow and an ffdshow properties tab now shows up when I click the Audio Decoder Properties button.

The Video Decoder is still being shown in MC as the Sonic Solutions one.  Should I change that?  If so, how is that done in Media Center?

Thanks,
Trent

I guess MC uses what is the system default. Did you restart your PC?

Check the ffdshow configuration. Perhaps it has switches for making its decoders the system default. Try to search the Doom9 and Afterdawn forums for more information.

I am not familiar with the Sonic Solutions. Could you just uninstall it if nothing else helps?
