Confused. CD Drive Analog Mode (Solved)
« on: November 23, 2005, 08:05:07 am »

I've just been playing around with my CD drive and playing
in Analog mode.  It was my understanding that there
had to be a cable between the drive and the soundcard
either SPDIF or one of those tiny four pin cables...
However I've found that currently both MC and WMP
appear to be able to play in analog mode with no cable
attached what so ever?!
I'm confused, whats happening?!

In fact it doesn't appear to be playing in analog mode at all  :-\
The headphone socket on the drive is outputting nothing,
and the drive continues to do 1million RPM

A ha, I've worked it out.  It's a windows ism.
You have to disable Digital Playback in Control Panel for each device
also, so effectively even tho the media players show they are playing
in analog mode they are actually still playing digital.

I think this should probably go in the help file next to the digital/analog bit.

I prefer Analog with an SP/Dif cable, because theres no processor over head,
the drive spins slower so less noise, and in my opinion it sounds better
although i've got no idea why that would be.  :)
