I didn't notice any untoward behavior. But, that is why it is a beta I guess. Do you have a number of 'Sharing folders' setup and processing for the first time? Can't think of much else that would do it.
Report the issue, they do actually listen.

Interestingly now it's been there a while it seems to have
settled in better.
I wonder if it's written in .NET? 
.NET stuff tends to cache itself so it gets better after it's run
a few times..

I wonder why MS don't call the next version of Windows Live?
It's much more meaning full to most people than Vista.
