MC11.0 hanging on 48kHz files
« on: January 08, 2006, 09:47:23 am »

If using MC11.0(316) in ASIO playback mode, it will ALWAYS hang on 48kHz files.  If I then stop MC playing and again ask to play, it will play the 48kHz file normally, but then hang on the next 44.1kHz file.  It will play properly if I stop MC and play.  This is aggravating when the preferred output is ASIO ... that is, this does not occur for "direct sound" or "wave out" ... so it's a mystery (to me) why it should happen with ASIO.

My Revo 7.1 is configured for 44100Hz, but it doesn't allow me to change it for troubleshooting this further, but it's still a mystery "why ASIO only?"

This can be depended on the ASIO driver's capability to change the sample rate automatically on the fly. I use ASIO4ALL with my Terratec sound card and it can change the sample rate fine. The only thing that doesn't work properly is Cross-fade, I get silence for a short moment instead. That cannot be fixed because there is no way to switch the sample rate steplessly.

If most of your files are 44.1 kHz you could set MC's output to 44.1 kHz. Then it would resample the 48 kHz tracks. MC has a high quality resampler and I think you would not hear any difference in audio quality.

I believe my MC is configured for output "same as media" rather then 44.1, so I'll try that.  However, MC does play them fine ... it simply hangs at the start, or whenever the playlist asks MC to switch.

Changing playback output to 44.1kHz worked ... thanx!   ;D
