Imported Playlists
« on: November 06, 2005, 02:29:01 pm »

When importing files into my library, I included playlist files (which in my case would be .m3u's) in the import options, since I have lost of playists that I would like to import from That Other Software.  But now that I have imported them into Media Center, I do not know how to access them.  What is the point of importing them if you cannot "use" them?  They do not show up in any library view.  I have read all of the Help sections on Importing and also on Playlists, but I cannot find any reference to imported playlists.
Anybody got any ideas on this?
Many thanks.

Did you check this place: MC tree (on the left) > Playlists > Imported Playlists ?

Actually, I just noticed that it doesn't work when the files and the playlists are imported at the same time. The playlist names appear in the Imported Playlists group, but they are empty. A workaround is to drag the .m3u file into the empty playlist. Then MC will populate it.

This seems to be a bug in MC11.0.316.

Another workaround is to first import only the playlists to an empty library. That will import the playlists and the corresponding audio files. After that a new import with only the audio file formats ticked will import the rest of the audio files.

Yes, that's where I expected to find them.  I click on Playlists and it expands into the following options:  New Group, Recently Played, Top Hits.  No "Imported Playlists."  Odd, they definitely did import, since they will not import again (that is to say, I already tried reimporting ONLY playlists, but there were zero playlists on my drives not yet imported.)
The audio clip, however, solved 99.9% of my problems in life in general.  Who needs playlists anymore!!!!

I just started uising MC and have tried for at least an hour to import playlists (m3U) from music match. Documentation in on-line help is non-existent. I have tried just about everytyhing I have read here in the forum with varying degrees of success. I imported the first playlist just by drag and drop into media library but have not been able to duplicate it since. Several times MC just locks up and I have to restart it. I created a new playlist and dropped one of the playlists in that I am trying to import. It shows as a single entry "CLDMA" and it plays. But it doesn't show individual songs and I can't edit it. I don't see any kind of directory for playlists and there are no menu items to facilitate playlist import. Playlists shouldn't be this hard.

Playlist management for importing existing .m3u flies plain just does not work.

What does work, and you have to use windows explorer with mc11, is to create a new playlist or choose an existing playlist within mc11.  Then drag the playlist .m3u file you are trying to import from windows explorer into the existing playlist in mc11.  Works nicely but I would rather have this simple funtionality built in to mc11.

When an .m3u file is highlighted in the mx11 tree pane, the view window should always show the contents, just as when viewing Playlists in the tree pane.  What's the big deal?  Then add a right-click menu option to import the playlist which defaults to the playlist filename that you can change and also lets you type in a group name.  Exactly the same dialog when you right-click Playlists in the tree pane and create a playlist from scratch.

I'm starting a new thread.
