I am encounterin a strange issue (playback over ASIO):

I ripped content from CDs and converted them to Flac via EAC and the official flac encoder from sourceforge.

When playing back content, that has a peak level of 100% (0dB) or slightly below, I get distortions. Searching for the cause, I discovered with an utility from RME (that works with my Studio qualitiy AD/DA Fireface 800), that peak levels at the INPUT of the AD/DA are already +1dB !
I have different possibilities to measure levels at this AD/DA, such as "Hardware Input Level", "Input Level", "Output Level". The earliest stage to measure levels is "Hardware Input Level", which means, the Utility (level meter) reads the digital level provided from the playback source (in that case, JRiver's output).
Already there, the peak levels are +1dB = CLIPPING
The same happens, if I play these CDs directly in MediaCenter.

My question: is there any scenario, that MC can cause an amplification of digital signals over ASIO, even if I have everything disabled, that could cause an amplification?
I have NO Equalizer, NO DSP effects, NO Crossfades involved, my output settings are as follows

Output Settings:
Bitdepth, Samplerate, channels: All set to "same as source"
NO checkboxes are ticked in the entire configuration window
Overflow handling: NONE

Playback settings:
No crossfades
Gapless playback (tried it also with Standard - no change!)


Can anyone help identify the problem?

Media Center is bit-perfect.

Turn on the ASIO Diagnostics in MC options and post what it shows here.  It may give a clue.

sorry for answering so late: here is, what ASIO Diagnostics returns:

Device ASIO Fireface (2 channel shift)
Buffer type 18 (1024 samples)
Output format 44100 kHz - 2 channels
Post output ready: 1
ASIOStart Return Value: 0 (should be 0)
Plugin Open Return Value: 0 (should be 0)
Buffer 0 Pointer: 58051960

I still get the +1dB problem (as I said, I can monitor the digital input levels of the D/A-section), so your help is most appreciated

Oh, and can I ask another question right away?
I read through all the posts & solutions about streaming from Media Server to a Client. I would love to stream my FLAC files uncompressed over the LAN to my HiFi-system in another room. Right now, that only works (as it is mentioned in some posts), when I set the options of the Client to "convert when necessary" and not, if I set the options to "do not convert". Due to that fact, I only can stream as compressed MP3 or Ogg from existing playlists, but I cannot stream without compressing my flac-files. Strangely enough, the "uncompressed" playback seems to work, when I doubleclick directly on a audio-file instead of using the playlist, for whatever reason....
Is there any solution for that?
