FavIcon.ico Opera www.jriver.com
« on: February 18, 2006, 07:30:17 am »

Whilst working on my webbrowser plugin
I've come across a strange anomoly.
While trying to read FavIcon.ico from www.jriver.com
I get an exception of invalid parameter.  (still reseraching...)

Anyway I thought I'd take alook at how other browsers
manage with it.  And FireFox seems fine with it.  IE seems
also to be able to view the image if I explicity
tell it to go to www.jriver.com/favicon.ico

However Opera doesn't seem to be able to, and never displays
an icon for the site.

Just thought I'd mention it!

Speaking of favicons, what's the picture for this forum supposed to be?  Here's what I see in my address bar & in my "Links" button:

but I can't for the life of me figure out what it's supposed to be!

Lol, What browser are you using?
It's corrupting it.

I've got a feeling the FavIcon.ico is in a weird format.
Photoshop can't open it.

IE6 (specifically: 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519)

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that IE is messing it up, since it won't keep the favicon image for any other sites in its links bar or favorites.

Not that it matters so very much...

IE ... won't keep the favicon image for any other sites

http://www.aignes.com/deadlink.htm should fix that.

Thanks, it did... all except the MCForum icon  8).  I finally just downloaded it and applied it locally, so I'm happy now.

Came in to start this same topic but see that Mr ChriZ  beat me to it!

Out of hundreds of bookmarks, MC is the only to display an empty space where the icon should be.

Can't figure out how to display it locally in Opera.

http://www.jriver.com/favicon.ico appears to be corrupt.

Regardless of that, the JRiver websites are missing the favicon statement in the HTML <head>, which explains why it's not displaying for most browsers (I guess Firefox assumes it's present with that name):

Code: [Select]
<link type="image/x-icon" rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico" />
