MC10 to MC11.1 -- Cover Art issues.
« on: February 14, 2006, 03:38:32 pm »

I upgraded from MC10 to MC11.1.  The default cover are folder location changed from being in the J River "Program Files" tree to the "Application Data" branch of "Documents and Settings."  I'd like to use the new default location, but my cover art is still all located in the original location.  When I look at the Media Server log, I notice that when I play a file, it is still looking for the art in the original location. This would lead me to believe that I can't just move the art since the library would still think it's in the old location.

How do I proceed?  How do I end up with the cover art stored in the new location (within "Application Data") so that the songs ripped with MC10 don't continue to look for the art in the old location?  Similarly, if I decide to store the art "next to file" at some point, how would I go about making that change as well?

On a related note, when I play songs via Media Server, the MS log tells me that the art for mp3s can't be found.  The art IS there (I can see it on the server and it IS located in the tags) but MS can't "find" it for some reason.

Thanks,

Larry

Move the art where you want it, change the location in MC's Options for File Locations, then select all the music, right click, choose image, then Quick Find in Cover Art Directory.

Thanks.

Just for the sake of future consistancy, is there a location that you consider to be the "standard" for cover art?  Would it be in the "Application Data" folder, or "Next to file," etc?  I just don't want to have to keep changing this as new versions of MC come out, so if there is a location that most people agree is the "standard," I'd like to use it.  Note that I do always have it stored in the tags when possible.

Thanks,

Larry

If I decide to use "Next to file," how do I "move" it first?  Manually moving it would entail having to move hundreds if not thousands of cover art files individually.

Thanks,

Move the art where you want it, change the location in MC's Options for File Locations, then select all the music, right click, choose image, then Quick Find in Cover Art Directory.

I discovered that this won't work in many situations.  There are cases where I changed the tags AFTER ripping the CD.  This means that the name of the art file will not match the name of the album, which makes the "Quick find in cover art directory" fail to see the cover art file as a match.  This requires me to manually "select" a cover art file for each group of songs.  Since I have hundreds of songs that did not get cover art, this would take a long time to accomplish.

Isn't there some way automating this process?  Isn't there a way to get MC to create new cover art files for all my albums in the Cover Art folder (i.e. to "extract" the art and put it in the folder)?  If this was possible, I could THEN use the "quick find" command to add the cover art to the files that were missing it.

Thanks again for any help with this,

Larry

I still don't know how to accomplish the task of taking my cover art from the MC10 folder, moving it to the default MC11 cover art folder, and having MC11 associate it with my audio files.  The method described above does NOT work if any changes were made to the file name since the "Quick find" function will not consider the art to be a "match" anymore.

I'm honestly at a lost as to how to proceed without doing this manually album by album.

Thanks for any assistance with this,
