BPM in Analyze Audio Wrong.
« on: April 28, 2006, 04:06:34 pm »

I am a new user of Media Center and was thinking of using it for casual DJing. One of the featues I liked about MC was the Analyze Audio feature, especially the BPM detection.

However, after letting it analyze over 3500 songs it appears I am having problems with the BPM range. Most of my songs are Swinging Jazz, Vocals and Blues. Most of the time the errors are that it is half the tempo it should be, but I have seen it at a third. In no case did it find a song over 170 BPM and I have plenty that are over.

Are there some setting I am missing?

Don't think there are much settings to speak of.

I have analyzed about 10000 songs now. It seems it is not especialy good on anything without a good beat. It will be reasonable correct on genres like House, Hip Hop and similar with a hard bass beat. But if you analyze Ambient or other similar genres the number are nuts.
It seems to fokus only on the heaviest bas beats and hope for the best.

The system could need a tweak or two

Ambient usually has no beat :)

I have found often that it is either twice as fast or twice as low. It has probs with syncopated stuff. In which case you need to do it manually, count for 15s then times by 4. Click on the BPM field, then F2, type it in.

The BPM field is editable and i have included it in Playing Now for this purpose.
