How to change file name
« on: May 31, 2006, 09:38:59 am »

Hello,

I have a library of about 15,000 songs. All WAV. I would like to copy these files to another filepath location.

If I have a library for songs... for example let's say the path is currently:

\\server_name\music libary 1\pink floyd\the wall\the wall.wav

Is there a way to do a global change in MC to change \\server_name\music libary 1\ to \\new server\new folder so the new path is:

\\new server\new folder\pink floyd\the wall\the wall.wav

Thanks!

Chris

Chris,

Go to Library Tools and select "Rename Files From Properties".  Try it on a few tracks to make sure the file path is what you want.  Make sure you backup your library first.

This is a great tool and should do exactly what you want.  The help file can give you more details on how the tool works.

As an aside, you may want to try lossless compression like Monkey's Audio.

You'll save space, gain tagging, and get very strong error detection.  That last one is important so that you never unknowingly lose bits.  I recently had a bad stick of memory and I would have been sunk had I used WAV files.
