Strange. I just assumed this worked because MC is so good; I tried it once today, and it worked a few times. Now it doesn't work anymore, even after reboot.

1: I created a "Comedy" View Scheme under the default Video -- Genre/Album/Year that only lists videos with a genre I call Comedy.
2: I click on the Comedy View Scheme folder and drag and drop it into the Data Disc module of Roxio.
3: First few attempts, Roxio Data Disc "Add Data" window was populated successfully with all of the names of the video in my MC Scheme.
4: Subsequent attempts, nothing. It doesn't crash or get interrupted. The Roxio cursor only changes to the classic "unavailable" cursor indicating that I cannot or am not allowed to do a feature, which in this case is drag and dropping.
5: Ordinarily, I would simply move on after such a failed attempt and assume that MC doesn't have standard drag and drop capabilities of true and fully Windows-compatible programs. Except for the simple fact that it worked and then just stopped working.
6: Also, a few tests: dragging an dropping single files work, but only up to a point. I haven't checked to see how many files it takes before the cirsor changes to to the "unavailable" one. It doesn't say unavailable mind you. The unavailable cursor is that circular one with the diagonal line going through it.
7: No comparison between an earlier build. I installed this latest version today, but never tried to drag and drop until today. So I don't know if this is a bug or not outside of the fact that it worked a few times, then stopped.

Anyone having this problem looking for a workaround, I just figured out one after scratching my head while this suddenly stopped working in the main module:

Open up the Roxio Creator Classic module. (This option is bundled with the Roxio program and is installed bu default. It's located directly under the standard Data Disc option which is having the drag and drop problem.)

Drag and Drop your files from MC into the Creator Classic Project Window.

Save the Project.

Close Creator Classic and open up the Data Disc module.

Open the project you saved in Creator Classic into the Data Disc module. (They're compatible.)

The end. The information you dragged and dropped in Creator Classic will be readily available for you to use in Data Disc.

Of course, an even easier workaround is to simply bypass Data Disc altogether and use Creator Classic, but I don't want to risk creating anything that could one day be not backwards compatible.

Note that this "works" but the issue is not resolved. This is only a workaround. Also, this does not technically open up in Data Disc. When you open the project in Data Disc, it will simply forward that request to Roxio Creator Classic and open up that module instead.

Why not just use MC's data disc burner?

Good question.

I left out that I was burning 73 Gigabytes (GB) of media. This would be quite cumbersome using MC. However, Roxio, Nero, and those other dedicated CD/DVD packages all have multiple disk spanning, which lets you in five seconds just drag and drop the files you want to burn, and then it automatically calculates the necessary amount of CDs, DVDs or whatever else you're using, numbers them, and selects the sequence of files and starts burning all with a simple click and go. After one DVD is completed, it prompts you for the second DVD etc., unless of course you have multiple DVD burners, in which case it would burn to as many blank DVDs in however many burners necessary etc.

I didn't want to create what turned out to be 17 different DVD's in MC using manual calculations, multiple playlists etc. I just needed the push and go simplicity of a dedicated DVD burner package.

My workaround worked using Creator Classic. But I don't know if this is a bug within MC or not. I don't know if MC is a standard Windows app or not in terms of using default dialogs and windows etc., but the ability to drag and drop between standard Windows applications should be included since it's common among most programs. I would be surprised if MC was one of the few programs that didn't play with nice with out Windows programs. So I'm reported this as a bug even though I have no idea if it is or if it was never designed to work like a fully Windows-compatible program.

I was able to fix the problem by doing a fresh reinstall of Windows XP and then reinstalling all my apps etc. There were many other quirks occurring related to my OS, so this issue is obviously not related to MC. This was a failure somewhere with the OS itself. There may be a simpler resolution, but since it is not a problem with MC, reinstalling it or changing its settings won't have any effect on this problem.

This is OS-related.
