Somewhat OT -- Vista Audio Improvements Overview
« on: September 07, 2006, 10:09:41 am »

One of the only reasons I'm even considering moving to Vista is the improvements it will make to OS-level audio handling (finally no more kmixer).  Ars just did a very nice overview write up on the changes to expect in the new OS...

Microsoft is clearly serious about the battle for the living room, and with the inclusion of these new features makes a strong case for the inclusion of Windows Media Center as part of a high-end audio and video setup. Audiophiles should find plenty to rejoice about!

A good read....

Yes, they are attempting some pretty cool features, I hope they can pull at least half of it off  ;D

Have you seen this thread? http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=713073

I have seen that thread.  Very interesting (and exciting) stuff.  (I thought the Ars article was a good, short overview without too much technical detail that would make many people's eyes glaze over.)

I still think I'll probably wait for the first Service Pack, but this is the first real reason that I'm actually excited about the upgrade.

I like the built-in equaliziation ability. Plug in a good mic, run the tool, enjoy the best sound possible with your setup.
