YADB Improvements
« on: September 11, 2006, 02:47:31 pm »

Hi Y'all,

We're using a new version of YADB. The improvements are:

* Better lookup algorithm
* Cleaner Data
* Adding a new CD will update old data if needed.

We came up with a new algorithm to replace our old fuzzy match algorithm (it kept timing out because it took too long). I also updated the insert process so that it is better at handling duplicates. I used this to help clean the data as I moved it from the old system to the new system.

Please give it a try (don't forget you can always right-click on the CD and choose "Update from CD Database", and post any comments here.

Are the YADB improvements independent of the MC version we are using?

Hi Magic_Randy,

Yes, the improvements are all on the server side, and work with all versions of MC/MJ that use YADB.

further info

I tried to upload some info that yadb had failed on, plus some others.

The error I got was that I uploaded 35 tracks and yadb had failed on five with a server error.

These were the same five tracks I tried earlier - when I put the cd in, yadb showed no info and everytime I try to upload them I get the same error about a server error.

FYI they're ripped as .ape and all the info I typed in shows fine here.

dlone,
I think you're talking about track lookup, not CD lookup.  The changes were for CD lookup.

If you select tracks from your library and submit them, that goes in our track database.

If you select a CD that you've entered information for and submit it, that goes in our CD database.

It's a little confusing, but there's a reason for it.  The lookups use completely different methods.  TOC (Table of Contents) for CD lookup.  A "hash" that represents the sound of the track for track lookup.

Hi Dlone, I'll look at this when I get a chance, but Jim is correct: the individual track lookup has not changed. I've got it disabled temporarily (last 2 hours) because of speed issues on the server, I'll let you know when I figure something out.

Cant even access it. Errors out every time. "Failed to connect to  YADB server". I had to give up and use the evil WMP instead.

Yes, we're having speed issues at the moment. I'm working on these, I'll post here when it is improved.

I've figured out how to improve the speed, it will be done early tomorrow morning if all goes well. YADB will be down, possibly for an hour, but hopefully less than 30 minutes, sometime tomorrow morning.

Thanks,

Hi Y'all, we've been running the new-and-improved yadb server for a half hour or so, seems to be MUCH faster...

Ooops minor technical glitch, some lookups weren't succeeding. It's now fixed.
