Plans for RMVB support?
« on: December 04, 2006, 11:12:53 pm »

I have lot of media files encoded in RMVB (about half of my library). Is there any plan to implement RMVB support in MC12? I think it supports just about everything else. Thanks.

If your system is able to play back the RMVB files with a DirectShow filter (I think RealAlternative can handle those now), MC should be able to handle them as is.  They might need to add the extension to MC's list of allowed extensions.  I don't believe that the "real" Real Player provides a DirectShow component, so either way you'll need RealAlternative to be installed.

Which is yet another reason that we need to have the option to add our own custom file extensions to MC's import/open dialogs!!!

If you want to get rid of those RMVB files (which are proprietary and hard to handle with most apps), check this: http://jakeludington.com/dv_hacks/20051210_how_to_convert_rmvb.html

Glynor, I have Real Alternative installed as part of the Klite mega codec pack.

The concept of filters is new to me. If I have DirectShow filters installed for different file formats, can I then use any program that supports DirectShow to play those files? Is that the idea?

That is the idea. For MC, we also have to specifically tell MC that the format is supported. I have made an update. In a future build rmvb files will be recognized.
