Cannot load plug-in.
« on: August 31, 2002, 06:35:45 pm »

Can someone please help me determine why I am having so much trouble getting the new version of MJ to load (other than the fact that I'm running W98).  When installing MJ, an error message would pop up saying:
Cannot load plug-in.
C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\Plugins\in_mp3.dll

When I click on OK, another popup says:
Failed to install package.
More Info: none

This error message consistently appeared with each of the following file names:
in_mp3.dll
in_wma.dll
in_ogg.dll
in_wav.dll
in_cda.dll
in_ape.dll
in_mpc.dll

After clicking on OK in each case, MJ appeared to finish loading.  When I inserted a CD in the drive, I got another pop-up saying:
Cannot create CD manager control.
Basically, nothing workes on MJ. Can't play any files, or even listen to cd's.  If anyone has any suggestions or knows what is going on, I'd really appreciate it.

My System Info is:

Media Jukebox PLUS 8.0.360

Did you try deleting the temp files?  IE/Tools/Internet Options/Temporary Internet Files/Delete Files.

Well Jim, that was a bust.  After deleting my temp internet files, my install wizard started crashing again.

Maybe its time to try W2K..

I would say that's either a bad MJ file or a bad OS.  I would try another download of MJ.  IE is buggy on downloading files.  If it thinks it has a current version, it ignores a request sometimes.

Bump...
Still having the problem.
Re-installed OS, DL'd MJ again, cleaned temp internet files, totally removed MJ from system and registry.  Have started to remove other programs that may be interfering (ie. Play Center).
Still cannot load plugins.  I'm basically dead in the water!

Any other ideas?

Did you also clean out the directory where you're installing?

Get rid of any MJ database files too.  Make sure the whole directory is gone.

Do IE /tools/windows update and get anything MS recommends.

Other than that, any other software running?  Virus checker, firewall, etc.

IE security settings?

Try 356 from the downloads page, but I'm pretty sure it's in the OS.

I'm having the exact same problem.  It started when trying to upgrade to 8.0.356.  Now even if I try an older version, I get the same problem.  And all this 20 minutes after registering.  Ouch.

Well,
After playing with this more, I shut down all other programs (McAffee Virus, ZoneAlarm, etc) and then deleted every trace of MJ, then reinstalled the older 8.0.348.  Not sure which thing fixed it, but I think I'll wait awhile to upgrade again...

Yosarian,
Will you try reinstalling 356?  It has to be one of the programs you mentioned and it would be nice to know which one.

I have exactly the same problem on one of my win98 machines, and it's not the download as the same file installs fine in win2k and on another w98 machine.

I have none of those aplications mentioned, and I have tried running the install with no other apps running.  This behaviour is the same with versions 356 & 360.  I haven't tried 348 (dunno where to get it), but would be willing to give it a go.

Yes, I cleaned my entire system of anything having to do with MJ.

>Get rid of any MJ database files too. Make sure the whole directory is gone.
Did it.

>Do IE /tools/windows update and get anything MS recommends.
No updates recommended.  All is updated.

>Other than that, any other software running? Virus checker, firewall, etc.
I closed all programs but Exporer.

>IE security settings?
Not sure what they should be???  Have it set on Low.

>Try 356 from the downloads page, but I'm pretty sure it's in the OS.
Me too.
Ive tried versions fro .348 up to .360.  They all do the same thing.  The MJ Version that I am having problem with loaded just fine on my work PC (Win98SE).

This is sooo frustrating.

That's because of the unloaded plug-ins.  You need them for MJ to read the media format(s), and since MJ can't load them, it can't read any of them.

At least it sounds like I'm not the only one with this problem!
C'mon team, what else could it be?  The whole problem started with the release of 358 or 359.  The real kicker is that now that the problem is there, absolutely no V8 prog will load properly (well, at least back to 348).

Will you feed some of the plugin .dll's that don't work to this:

http://www.dependencywalker.com/

and see if you can see something missing?

Thanks Chico and sorry for the troubles.

I have 4 boxes two of them are win98 osr2, one is standard win98 and one is win2k.

having loaded version 8 (360) on all machines, the two boxes that exhibit this same anoying behaviour are the OSR2 (or poss 2.5 - I can't remember exactly).

So, is that the answer.  What version of 98 have you got Chico and what are you testing on Matt?

I would really like to see this sorted out too.

Possible break in the case...it's a Microsoft problem that has to do with .net.

From the v9 thread:

"A required .dll file, OLEACC.DLL was not found"

and from a news group:

It's possible that the missing dll may be part of the Windows Accessibility package and that the problem might be solved by installing it.  We'll know more tomorrow.

Thanks for your patience.

Thanks for the efforts guys.  I'm really busy at the moment...  I'll try to UL the dlls 2nite.

Alban,
Not sure what SR I'm running.  I did all of the recommended updates from MS.  Will re-post sys info when I get to my machine 2nite.

Again thanks for all of your efforts and patience.

Ok, I think that's solved it.

I found the oleacc.dll on my win98 cd (it was in one of the cab files, so look closely), droped it into my system folder and all worked.

I initially found this on trying to install v9 but then went back and tested it on version 8 - it works (much relieved).

WOW Matt....
That program is really cool!  Anyway, this is what it found:

The system cannot find the following files:
oleacc.dll
apphelp.dll
msi.dll
userenv.dll

These messages were at the bottom of the report:
Error: At least one required implicit or forwarded dependency was not found.
Warning: At least one delay-load dependency module was not found.
Warning: At least one module has an unresolved import due to a missing export function in a delay-load dependent module.

Looks like we're getting somewhere.

Alban,
I can't find oleacc.dll on my Win98 CD.

Where can I go to find these files?

I found it in WIN98_36.CAB in the WIN98 Directory of the CD.  You can use winzip to extract it.

Thanks Alban,
I found it and placed it into my system dir.
Now the MJ installer is crashing on me (again).  Sigh...

I ran MediaJukebox80360.exe through that Dependency program that Matt had suggested and it said that MJ needs the following dll's:
apphelp.dll
msi.dll
userenv.dll

I didn't find them on the Win98 CD, but then, I didn't do a thorough search for them yet.

I will travelling on business the rest of this week, so I may not get back to this at least untill Friday.
If anyone knows where to find the above mentioned DLLs, please either post here or e-mail me at: "Chico_Moran@TheMoranGang.com" or "ChicoMoran@aol.com".  I will be forever in your dept...

Thanks,
Chico

Chico,

If you need to find these files on the windows cd, just use the find files, but put the file name in the "containing text" box rather than the filename box.  It will highlight the relevant cab files.

Jim,
Just got back from Long Island. For the life of me, I can't imagine why anyone would want to live in that environment (no offense to New Yorkers). If I had to travel through that kind of traffic every day, I'd be one miserable SOB. I'd probably get home from work and slap the wife and kick the dog every day! (That or this would be me --> )
Anyway, I read your post and DL'd 80363.
I'll give it a shot on my machine tonite and let you know how I made out.
Thank you Jim, Matt, and Alban for all of your help. You guys are the greatest (just like MJ).

OK...  Got home, Had a , loaded MJ and...
Every thing loaded just fine!
Although, I did install the oleacc.dll file into my system dir before I left for NY.  So, it may have loaded anyway, but it did load and I am happy.

Thank you.
