Some FLAC files don't want to import
« on: April 01, 2007, 11:01:39 pm »

I've got a set of .FLAC files that I could have sworn used to be in MJ (12 - latest build), but are not in the library.  I have tried to import the files, but they are not importing (no error - it's like they're not there).  These were built with the 1.1xx version of FLAC, and I have the 2.xx version installed now.

I do have some .flac files (same 1.1xx version encoding) that ARE in the library, and play fine.

I did a set of conversions using the convert dialog, and had success going from .flac to .mp3 and .flac to .ape with the files that I see in the library  - that all seemed to work fine.

The funny thing is, I see these non-importable files in my handheld sync listing, and they are shown as status 'file not supported'.  I'm not sure WHY these are even listed here, I assumed the the library drove the MJ side of the handheld sync.

Could these be in the library, but not shown somehow?

I would like to get these back in the library so I can play them.  Any ideas? ?

I have had a similar problem. When I renamed the album folders MC12 imported the FLAC files - I have no idea why. Maybe this will work for you.

Really long path names?  Any Unicode characters?

It's possible the path/filename might be passed to the plugin corrupted from MC. Well, technically, I suppose that's just misinterpreted  ;D

Yeah, I had a similar problem just the other day with some FLACs I ripped, and not all of them went into the library.  I had to manually import them, since autoimport didn't work, and there were no tags on the file for some reason, so I had to enter in all the information manually.

I don't know why it happened.

Re: Some FLAC files don't want to import SOLVED

Thanks for the help!  Re-naming the files and importing them into the library brought them in.

I think I figured out what was happening.  I'm so used to working with 'audio' files that I never looked at the other file types.  These FLAC files were in the library as 'documents' (I now remember seeing something about this before...) That's why the files would not import into the library - they were already there!  And why renaming them and re-importing brought them in - the new names were not in the library, so they were seen as new entries.  This also may explain the 'file not supported' status on the handheld device screen.

I went into the files ID'd as documents and removed them from the library - all appears to be well!  Whew.
