Real Video not imported into library
« on: April 19, 2007, 07:10:35 am »

MC still doesn't import all real video files. If you add .rm and .ram to import file extensions for real video, that would do it.

if you mean that to make MC import those files you have to select "Real Audio (ram,ra)" in the Import Folder or Auto-Import Folder dialog boxes, i think it's by design.
if you mean anything else, i don't get it

MC currently imorts the following real video types - rv and rmvb extensions. However some real video clips  have the extensions rm and ram. MC does not import those at the moment.

I believe ram is for Real Audio. If you have video with ram extension, they might be imported but (incorrectly) classified as audio. You can either rename the files to *.rv, or find them under Audio and manually change Media Type from Audio to Video.

*.rm can be imported from Windows Explorer (assuming you have Media Center Shell integration on).

*.rm can not be imported currently.

rm is just an rmvb file with a constant bit rate. MC used to import rm but not rmvb. Now it's the other way round.

Why not allow importing of rm and rmvb?

I should not have said "*.rm can not be imported currently". They can be imported, but just not using the Import dialog window because for some reason the extension is not listed. You can import these files from Window Explorer. Open an explorer window, find and select the *.rm files you want to import, and right-click and choose "Media Center" -> "Import".

Agreed. But life would be so much easier if the extension .rm could be imported just like .rmvb. I can't think of a reasonable reason why these 2 extensions are treated differently.
