Message pops up saying "Cannont recognise your iPod, please check for a new version of MC"
It's an 80GB, software version 1.2.1
Never had any probs with it before...

Could you post a chunk of log (from Help > Logging...) that describes the iPod analysis?

Clear the log, then plug in an iPod, wait a few seconds, then view the log.

It's possible you have a model number / USB ID that's very new. (lucky you!)

There is no problem with v12.2.203 though, only with .207

EDIT: Nevermind. I chose *Redetect Handheld Devices* and it fixed it. all good now

Actually I recind that previous comment. When I loaded up MC again it gave me the same error.
I have to redetect devices for it to show up. which means i lose my iPod settings...

Try running the EXE in this ZIP:

Then send a log showing failed iPod detection to matt at jriver dot com.

I've just had this same problem - I'm not sure of the outcome of this thread but I think I've found the probable problem and the solution/workaround.

The problem seems to be when Nero has installed its "Nero Fast CD-DVD Burning Plug-in" and you've selected "Remove & ignore" against it in the tree view. Redect Handheld Devices fixes the problem with detecting iPods until you remove & ignore the "Nero Fast CD-DVD Burning Plug-in" at which point iPod detection starts playing up again. (I notice from a glance at vine-au's log file that s/he has done just this).

The solution is to get the Nero installation file/CD and modify the installation to remove the "Nero Fast CD-DVD Burning Plug-in". The option is under the "Special" tree node, once you get to the point where you select which features the Nero installation is to install.

Edit: This was using MC12.0.223 and Nero 7.8.5.0
