OK, here is the situation: I have numerous subtitles for music videos and I would like to know if, there is a program that will insert the subtitle into the video? So I can watch the video in Nero with subtitles already included. In other words, I want the subtitle in the video in a way I can watch it on the Video CD.

So you want to "burn" the subtitles directly into the video so they become part of the video?  You will not be able to turn them off then.

Then, yes, many converters can do it.  What format do you want the video to be in for the end product?  Is it for DVD?  Video CD (and if so, SVCD or just regular MPEG-1 SVCD)?  Or do you want the end product as a video file on your computer (such as a XviD AVI or x264 MKV or something like that)?

I want the subtitles part of the video so I can watch them in my home standalone DVD Player. What converters do you recommend? I want to burn the video files to VCD not DVD. i tried Nero but the subtitle was not allowed.

They're mpg files. And the subtitles are .smi files.

VCDs (Video CDs) do not support "soft subs" (the type that DVDs use that you can turn on and off on the player).  So, you have two options:

1. Try burning a miniDVD in Nero Vision Express.  A miniDVD is essentially a DVD-structured disc that is authored and compressed to fit on a regular CD-R.  Since it "is" a DVD-Video disc (just burned onto CD media) then it supports all the same features as a regular DVD, including soft subs.  Not all players will be able to play back miniDVDs.  If you know for sure that the discs will only be played on your player (and no one else's) then you could try making one of these and see if it works with your player.  Lots of newer players handle these discs fine.

2. Hard code the Subs into the video.  This isn't simple.  You need to re-author the video to include the subs.  I wasn't able to find simple step-by-step instructions for MPEG source files, but you can try this which was written for source AVI files: http://forum.koreandramas.net/topic_541.html

Either one of these might work with MPEG files.  I'm not sure...

It turns out you can't.  Nero Vision stupidly doesn't support subtitles even for DVD-Video.

I did find a method that might work to burn Subs into the video files in Nero easier though, if you want to try.  The idea is that Nero by default uses it's own built-in decoders to transcode video from whatever format it's in to MPEG-2 for the DVD.  If you disable the Nero decoders though, it will try to use the ones built-in on your system (which would probably be FFDSHOW).  Since FFDSHOW supports Subtitles, it'll load and play them back during the transcoding, which will "burn" the subs into your video.

Here's how (I have NOT tested this):

1. Set up your system so FFDSHOW handles playback of the video file you want to burn, and displays the subtitles correctly when you play it back.  You want FFDSHOW to have the subtitle support enabled by default (so that you don't need to turn it on once Nero starts it up).

2. Then, find the file C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\DSFilter\NeVideo.ax and rename it to NeVideo.bak

3. Attempt to burn your video file as normal.  You should see FFDSHOW's icons load in the Notification Area while Nero is transcoding the video.

4. That's it.

glynor, it worked!! Using DVD Santa. I took your previous advice but it didn't seem to work.
