Firefly RF remote and MC 12?
« on: June 25, 2007, 03:09:18 pm »

Does anybody know if there is a Firefly profile file for MC 12?

Thanks.

I use mine with Girder 4 and it works great.  I posted my GML files over in the Third Party Plugins forum a while back.  If you have the Firefly, it should work pretty much out of the  box with my GML files.  I install the actual Firefly software (rather than the "for Girder" stuff they provide), but then shut the Beyond Media thing off -- so the drivers are loaded but it doesn't work without Girder.

Thanks Glynor,

I actually bought the Firefly based on your recommendation in the forum (plus I got a great deal for it second hand), but I was wondering if there was a way to use it (even with reduced functionality) without Girder before I buy it... (While I know Girder is a great product, I'm trying to save a little :-))

Yeah.... I suspected that might be your question.

You can.  The Firefly software allows you to define your own "actions" for the keys on the remote (most of them, I don't think you can re-assign the Firefly key) to do any "button press" you want.  However, you have to manually hack the Firefly "Profile".  This involved manually changing text files (I don't think they were even as pleasant as XML).

However, I just saw with the current version of the Firefly software there is a program at: C:\Program Files\SnapStream Media\Firefly\ProfileEditor.exe that looks like (if you run it) it could be a simpler GUI to do it...

When I was considering the same thing, I looked into it and read all kinds of threads over at the Snapstream Forums.... In the end, I decided my time was worth more than the cost of the cheap version of Girder 4.  BTW -- For most MC stuff, you DON'T need the fancier versions of Girder...
