Sorting rule customization bugs/quirks
« on: July 08, 2007, 01:44:58 pm »

What is the intended sorting rule precedence?

Because it's got me stumped...

I have the Video view scheme customized as follows:

NOTE: The Video Type field is a custom one with either TV, or Movie in it.

Then for the Pane View Customization I have:

Everything is as expected and I gather from my trials, that the Pane view sorting is linked to the View Scheme's sorting, because changing one affects the other.

For the remaining Video Type, Series, Season, and Name thumbnail views I have the following customization (shown drilled Down to: Video Type: TV, Genre: Science Fiction, Series: Doctor Who, Season: 3):

I guess the thumbnail view's sorting rules aren't linked to the View Scheme's, because I chose Sort->Default and it's definitely not sorting the thumbnails as specified in the View Scheme/Pane rules, but simply sorting alphabetically on the Name field.

For the Files below the thumbnails (always shown), I have the following customization:

The sorting arrows match the customization, but the fields are NOT sorted properly!  Again, they're simply sorted alphabetically on the Name field.

If I change the thumbnail view's customization to match the Files and the View Scheme, I finally get what I wanted:

Not quite done yet...
Now If I go to Theater View with everything as I have it set now, and drill down to the same location in Lineup mode, I get the following:

Anybody see a trend here?  Again we're back to ignoring my sorting rules and simply sorting alphabetically on the Name field...

sorting in theater view is already better then it was. but it still has a long way to go. i agree with you. i expect theater view to give me the same sorting as i use in standard view (but i think i also understand what the problem is for the programmers).

the trend? you get more or less, what you see when using panes in the upper view.
