Is it possible to make recording from TV impossible?
« on: August 26, 2007, 05:38:39 am »

I have a computer set up in the bedroom (or more precise on the attic, with a ceiling stand for the monitor that contains all the cables - very neat and silent solution!), but have a problem: At times the kids will be impatient when starting playback and press more buttons than they should, so they start recording or pauses live TV. And that computer really doesn't handle that well, with an old Celeron and a slow 10 gig hard drive. Is there a way to avoid this? Essentially remove or lock any form of recording from TV?

There is an option for how many hours to record.  You could set it to a low level.

Or set it to record to a network drive?

Thanks, Jim, but I've tried that. And the problem is that the second it starts recording, TV will become jerky because the computer is slow. And sometimes it even crashes. So I take it there's no way of really deactivating it, then?

Not at this time, as far as I know.  Maybe you can update your kids' firmware.

Tried that. The interface wasn't compatible with any plugs I have...

How about try pointing it to a directory that is set as read only?

That was an idea! Or even better: one that doesn't exist, like a network hard drive that I disconnect after having chosen it as the recording place! I will try that, thanks!
