Cover Art Problem with Chinese Character mp3s
« on: September 09, 2007, 03:37:22 am »

I cannot seem to use the recent versions of MC12 to paste cover art into an mp3 file that is named with Chinese characters in the filename and the ID3 tags.  I'm currently on 12.0.318.

These mp3 files import correctly.  All attributes/tags of the file display fine within my library.  I have my Coverart settings to "Store in the Same Folder as the File (Folder.jpg)" and also "Store Image in the File's Tag".  Also, my library is set to "Update Tags when File Info Changes".

I have tried using both the Paste from Clipboard and the Add From File commands in the Coverart context menu.  In both cases, the Coverart simply does not appear.  However, if I use an external program to add the Coverart to these files (like iTunes) and then I go back into Media Center and select "Update Library From Tags" then the coverart will appear.

This only happens on my files that begin with Chinese characters in the filename and the ID3 tags for title, album.  All others work fine.

I have reproduced the error on several albums now.  Anyone else experience this issue?

Could you email a sample file to matt at jriver dot com?

Thanks for the help.

The problem is occurring when the cover art being added is also saved to the hard drive in the specified cover art folder.

When adding cover art to a file (Cover Art->Add From File...), when it asks to also store the image on the hard drive, say no.

If there is already a cover art file (jpg) in the cover art folder that has Chinese characters, remove the file from outside MC (using an explore window). To find out where the cover art folder is go to:

Tools->Options->File Location->Cover Art

This will apply until there is a fix to allow MC to read cover art files with Chinese characters.

Should be fixed in the next build
