Tags from extracted DVD's
« on: September 22, 2007, 03:28:06 pm »

Hello,

I have 3 300GB HD that I have copied to an external 1TB HD with extracted DVD's.
Some of them have tags with acors/year/director etc. How will I get these tags on the copied moives?
When I delete the 3 300 HD the tags will be lost. Is there a way to add an XML file to each movie, so it will always be saved?

Regards,

Unfortunatly not...but this feature has been asked for before.  It would be great if MC12 let you save the Thumbnail down in folder.jpg and even tag this file with the relevant meta data....

....anyway there is a way to keep your MC12 tags.  First turn off Auto Import.  BACKUP YOUR LIBRARY (File --> Library --> Backup Library) in case it all turns to custard you can the restore it and try again!  Then you can swap your drives (move files around etc).  From inside MC12 Select the listings for the Movies you have moved to the new 1TB drive and the right click on these (or group of these) and select Library Tools --> Search and Replace.  Check the Filename box and then under "Find What" put in the old drive/path (eg "D:\Movies") and under Replace put in the new drive/path (eg: "E:\Lots of Movies").

When this is done MC12 should be pointing at your new collection and will keep all its tags!

Hello,

Thanks for your help, I did a test with just one file and then the others all together and it went fine.

Still it would be nice indeed to have an option for storing it into a folder so you would not depend on doing everything this way...

Just want to put in a warning that going to one drive means if it fails, you'll lose all of that TB.  So make sure you have the original discs.  I wouldn't recommend tying up your other three drives for the movies, obviously.  A HDD copy + original media is usually plenty.
