mp3 tag "Copyright" behavior
« on: September 17, 2007, 12:38:37 pm »

I recently encountered for the first time an mp3 file that had a value stored in the tag "Copyright".

MC would not permit me to edit this field presumably because Edit Type was set to "Cannot be edited".

I tried to change the Edit Type property but MC would not permit me to do so.

I then used another MP3 tag editor to remove the data stored in the Copyright field and told MC to "Update library from tags" however MC is still showing the original value in Copyright.

So a couple questions:

1) Why can't I change the Edit Type property for Copyright?
2) Why did "Update library from tags" not work as expected after I removed the Copyright data with another tool?

Thanks for any insight you can share.

Could be a relation to http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=41095.0 (see last two posts).
Unfort. MC hasn't given a statement for that ...

Thanks for the idea but I don't think this explains what I am observing.

Just encountered the same problem as described. I use to read tag IDSharp a library to read id3 tag and I can swear that everything is OK in the mp3 tag concerning copyright. Format field in MC doesn't show anything related to that field. So it must be a MC bug.

I even tried to remove the file from music library & re-import it. Same behavior. Is it possible that MC keeps drm or copyright related file in cache or in a specific folder in library or in application data?

I'll experience a similar behaviour that files deleted from library are not really deleted but somehow "marked" as deleted. When re-importing they are not "newly added" but re-imported with "fixed links".
No idea what to do to really delete a file from Library ...

It's possible that the behavior you are observing is caused by data stored in the CD Database. You can delete this data if you wish.

I didn't found anything about a separate CD database, all tags are stored in the library. Can you tell me were I'll find this option/database?
thx
